Please note: Day 2 of this class is during the State Maintenance Rodeo.
If you are registered for both, you will be missing most-to-all of Day 2 CPSI. This is permitted but will limit your time in class substantially.

The Playground Safety Inspector Certification Course provides the most comprehensive and widely recognized training available on playground hazard identification and risk management.


Advanced reading and 12 hours of classroom instruction by nationally recognized playground safety experts will prepare you to sit for the Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) Exam, offered on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The course includes classroom instruction, resource materials developed especially for the course, and CEUs (optional). Study materials will be mailed out approximately 30 days before the first day of class, and only after complete payment has been received.

Special Information

  • A candidate who has a disability may request a special accommodation; the request must be submitted in writing at the time of course or exam registration. The request form is available online at www.nrpa.org/cpsi. In order to properly accommodate all persons with disabilities, it is recommended that all requests be made 45 days prior to the scheduled date for the course and exam. Example accommodation requests include ability to bring medications, specialized seat cushions, and service animals.
  • English as second language (ESL) candidates may request a time extension and/or the use of a strict translation dictionary. Request forms/fees must be submitted to NRPA no less than 30 days prior to the exam. The request form is available online at www.nrpa.org/cpsi.
  • The option to take the CPSI exam via computer-based testing is available through the NRPA. To obtain additional information please visit www.nrpa.org/cpsi Please be advised if you register to take the examination with the course, you will not receive a refund to take your exam via computer-based testing at a later date. Please decide now if you would like to take the exam on Day 3 of the course or via a computer-based exam at a later date. 
  • Book Replacement Fee $85 (if you lose your book and need to order an additional book you must pay the book replacement fee)
  • Book Return Fee $280 (if you cancel your participation you will need to return the book to TRAPS or pay the book return fee)
  • Exam Day Specifics: The third-party proctor company will not allow you to bring anything with you on exam day, unless previously approved through an accommodation request. This includes, but is not limited to: notes, writing utensils, electronics, personal bags, beverages, etc..

Meals

Lunch is provided on Days 1 and 2. All other meals are on your own.

Refunds/Cancellation

CPSI cancellation requests must be made in writing to the Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS) state office. A processing fee of $50 will be assessed for cancellations received up to 31 days prior to the first day of class.  Cancellation requests received 15-30 days before the first day of class will receive a 50% refund. Additional book fees may apply. Allow six (6) weeks after the course/event to receive refund. No refunds less than 15 days prior to the first day of class. Should a person's employment be terminated prior to the class, the paying organization may opt to provide an alternate student for a $50 admin fee.

Substitutions

In the event that a registrant can no longer attend a class, it is recommended that the agency/organization supply the TRAPS state office with the name and email of a potential substitute. If the TRAPS state office is able to accommodate the substitution request, a $50 substitution fee will be charged. If the TRAPS state office is not able to accommodate the substitution request, the above Refund/Cancellation policy will apply.
