WHAT IS CPSI?

The Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) course and exam is offered by the National Certification Board in coordination with the National Recreation and Park Association and the Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS).

Certified individuals are trained to properly inspect playgrounds for safety hazards and ensure compliance with national standards set by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

The CPSI course is important for school districts, municipalities, playground manufacturers, childcare facilities, insurance companies, and other organizations that are responsible for playgrounds and playground equipment.

SCHEDULE (CENTRAL TIME)


PART ONE – ONLINE PREP COURSE – SELF-PACED

• Upon full payment and meeting the class minimum registrations, the course books will be mailed to you.
• Course participants will receive an email from NRPA with information on how to access the CPSI Online Prep Course prior to the live instructor training.
• The CPSI Online Prep Course is self-paced, approximately 12 hours in length containing 8 different modules.
• The prep course must be completed at least 24 hours prior to the live instruction session.

PART TWO – LIVE INSTRUCTION VIA ZOOM

• The instruction course will be done live via Zoom and led by a CPSI Instructor.
• The course is one day and will be 4 hours in length. (8:00 AM -12:00 PM)

PART THREE - CPSI EXAM

• The 2-hour exam will be completed via computer-based examination at PSI Professional Testing sites or remote proctored examination with compatible computer.
• Participants will receive an email with information on how to schedule the exam approximately one week prior to the Live Virtual Course.
• TRAPS does not coordinate exam logistics.
 Exam must be taken within 75 days after the live instruction course.

IMPORTANT NOTES

• Participants must have a unique email address; they cannot share email addresses. This email will be used for the course and examination.
• Participants must complete both the CPSI Online Learning course and the CPSI Virtual Learning Session to receive the approved 1.5 CEUs.
• Candidates sitting for the CPSI certification examination must be 18 or older and have earned a high school diploma or equivalent.
• A candidate who has a disability may request a special accommodation; the request must be submitted in writing at the time of course or exam registration. The request form is available online at www.nrpa.org/cpsi In order to properly accommodate all persons with disabilities, it is recommended that all requests be made 45 days prior to the scheduled date for the course and exam.
• English as second language (ESL) candidates may request a time extension and/or the use of a strict translation dictionary. Request forms/fees must be submitted to NRPA no less than 30 days prior to the exam. The request form is available online at www.nrpa.org/cpsi.

Refunds/Cancellation

CPSI cancellation requests must be made in writing to the Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS) state office. A processing fee of $50 will be assessed for cancellations received up to 31 days prior to the first day of class.  Cancellation requests received 15-30 days before the first day of class will receive a 50% refund. Additional book fees may apply. Allow six (6) weeks after the course/event to receive a refund. No refunds less than 15 days prior to the first day of class.
